We want earnest writers to become members of the Knol Publishing Guild. Begin by submitting your ‘bio knol’ to this moderated collection (see the next paragraph if you don’t have one yet). After signing into Knol, click the link titled “+ Submit a knol to this collection.” Select your ‘bio Knol’ from the pop-up window. If it doesn’t automatically appear, type your name or the full address (URL) of your bio Knol into the search box. Of course, you need to prepare a bio knol first.
A bio knol is a short biographical Knol that you write and publish about yourself. Include your background, experience, fields of interest and your reasons for wanting to write and publish. Once accepted, your bio knol will automatically change in appearance to identify that you are a member of KPG. Note: Google supports submission of a Bio Knol to only one moderated collection at a time. Your Bio Knol will appear in the list below once your membership has been accepted.

New memberships are temporarily suspended. Please read message just under the headline, above…
The Knol Publishing Guild is committed to openly and transparently helping any writer who wants to publish units of knowledge based upon “what you know.” You do not need to be a member to gain assistance.
Our
members are never anonymous (as you can easily observe in the sidebar,
right, and the content below). We are among the most experienced Knol
creators. KPG appears as an “author” because Google has yet to provide a
unique structure for groups like ours. We remain 100% visible through
our members. Separately and collectively, we enjoy high rank measured by
Google’s award algorithms. Importantly, we share a common trait: a legacy of helping Knol writers openly and transparently. We are never anonymous.
On most individual Knols written by our members, look for the
KPG logo, a brand that signifies transparency and openness (non-anonymity) and collaboration for excellence. We think these qualities set us apart. Google’s counting system combines all KPG-branded Knols, producing a single count that averages around 35,000 page views per week, 1.8 million per year!

Knol is an awesome 21st Century publishing platform. It
offers many elaborate multi-media tools. New-to-Knol writers often spend
a great deal of time learning to master often buggy or balky tools like
YouTube, Google Gadgets and Google Docs,
among many others. We help shorten the learning curve to speed your
message to readers regardless of whether it reflects education, research
or personal / professional expertise. We are thus pursuing a mission of
helping writers achieve a great reader experience. We are fueling
Knol’s growth. It is the primary objective of the
democratically-organized KPG.Many of our latest members have asked to
join because they’ve benefited from our experience and collaboration.
New members then become part of the volunteer team as time permits in
individual schedules. There are no dues, no requirements of any kind for
those who qualify for membership by their good work, as described below
under Rules & Terms.
A fresh motivation for KPG membership is to keep the lights on aboard steamship Knol. Of late (Spring 2010), SS Knol is rudderless and crew is strangely absent from the bridge and engine room. The erstwhile Google crew has yet to be supplanted by the kind of talent armed with skill augmented by replacement parts to solve the inevitable problems that crop up in every complex content management system. However, as of late May, 2010, our membership received news that Google would return to the bridge and engine room. We applaud the renewed committment and await repairs.

Speaking of good work, the growing library of Knols by KPG members
arguably constitutes the apple of any professional librarian’s eye. As
membership grows, so grows the apple. If professionally-organized
libraries in general contain works that can be ranked good, better and best, then KPG member works will be found most often in Knol’s best section.
Currently, we provide writer assistance in a number of ways. For
example, our membership delivers fairly quick Knol-centered help via an
emergency response article titled Knol-Help 911.
Anyone may leave a comment describing a problem, with the assurance
that one or more of us will respond quickly. We also provide a Knol-Help Book
that compiles, in one article, all the author-help Knols that have been
written by the founding members of the KPG. There is plenty of guidance
to choose from. And, our members are always glad to offer personalized
assistance, advice and… objective criticism. Just give us a shout with a
comment.
Applying for membership:Once you have
established yourself as a Knol author, we invite you to apply for
membership. “Established” usually means more than a single Knol, more
than a handful of page views and clear signs of ungamed star ratings,
reviews and comments. There are no fixed numbers since different fields
have widely varying standards. A professor at a medical university,
writing in his field, has an entirely different mission than a broadly
experienced construction handyman who wants to share his knowledge.
Re-read the introduction for instructions on how to submit your Bio Knol
as an application for membership. If you apply but receive a rejection
without an explanation, then you have not observed the application rules
stated next.
Rules & Terms: KPG membership is not automatic. Our decisions employ peer review based on best practice metrics. We evaluate your body of work against standards for your field(s) of knowledge. And we apply Google’s Terms of Service and Content Policy as best we can. For example, we will not knowingly grant membership to a “copy and paste” writer. Hence, an offer of membership in response to your Bio Knol is a true achievement. Acceptance by peers yields valuable endorsement plus well-earned recognition. And, there is the potential to explore wider publishing opportunities as a bonus.

Note:
KPG accepts only Biographical or Bio Knols in the application process.
Please review accepted Bio Knols in the collection below for ideas and
examples. Save your time as well as KPG’s with a well-crafted Bio Knol about yourself. Don’t apply if you are “anonymous” or operating as a non-verifiable human.
